Friday a late lunch at Rudy's BBQ with my kiddos. Love talking with them. They are so smart & funny:) My son has suffered with a leg problem since being bit by a spider several years ago. My daughter Bren drives him to his current wound care visits. I offered, bit I can't reach the pedals in his truck. Thank God they are there for each other.
Visited with Veronica last Sunday. I called to see if she was working & noticed her voice was shaky. Asked her what was wrong. She denied anything was the matter. SURE. I've known her 62 years. She finally fessed up to the reason she was upset. So I went to her job site & took her a Amirugumi Bee-terfly. That cheered her up along with our visit. Gave her some Family Sheets to fill out. And I was able to use her discount to buy some more ink cartridges. Tit for tat?:)
My sis & I went to visit Auntie Alice for her 86th b-day 0n 5/27/14. We found her in her room smiling. Sis stopped to get 2 huge bunches of gladiolas, lemon meringue pie & party plates. Auntie always planted gladiolas & roses in her yards. I made a picture collage of her & her kids (my cousins) at various ages. Her birthday card was "1-tequila, 2-tequia, 3-tequila---Floor":), I was an insomniac & when she would sometimes be at my Grandpa Julian's house, she would go jitter-bugging, get tipsy, & come back late. Her drink wasn't tequila, but that's the only card I thought would bring a laugh;)She was of the era when all women wore girdles no matter how slim they were. And, she was slim. I would giggle as she would be trying to get her girdle off & not wake Grandpa up. Grandpa's house was built as most homes of the 1920s in the southwest. Adobe, no hallways & you entered one room after another. She was always singing Besa me, besa me mucho. Asked her if she kissed a lot of her dance partners back in the day. She just smiled & said, "Some I did and some I didn't." She also sang a song composed by a great uncle that rode with Pancho Villa. His name was Iraclio Chaves(?). Auntie was full of stories from her youth:) Thankfully, I had my handy, dandy digital recorder & cell to get this picture. I hope to upload her voice to Ancestry so that family can listen to her stories & also preserve her voice.
We had a great visit!!:))
She also confirmed that Grandma Deluvina smoked roll your own. This epiphany was kind of shocking to me because I knew how much Grandpa frowned on women smoking & drinking. But...sometimes Grandma also liked to tip a few. Wow! As did Grandpa on occasion in his younger days. Also an eye opener.
During the past few days I have tried to write down some of the old sayings in our family. Some are probably common to most Spanish people.
1. La sangre sabe. From Grandpa
2. Hacer roƱoso es trabjar doble. From Grandma Deluvina
3. ¡Oye chata! Chata narata, narizes de gata. My Mom being taunted
4. Maybe yes, but I don't think so. My granddaughter upon being presented with a too frilly dress.
5. what-a-modie
As I progress to more ancestors, Ancestry.com displays more green leaves. So had to upgrade to World Explorer. Then I got even more leaves! So much information. Have to prove all the documents before I can add them to our Pedigree Chart. That's just my criteria. The different Facebook ancestry pages are great help. Sometimes I feel like Johnny Carson's Carnac. The answer is.......
Chomping on ice also required a dentist visit to fix 3 cracked fillings to the tune of $447.00! Bad habit. But, my dentist did a great job! Bree, his assistant is very good at her job too. He even called later in the day to see how I was doing. How nice is that? He wanted to make sure my teeth didn't hurt, my bite was not off & the anesthesia had worn off without any complications. That is great service:)
Had a Yard Sale at my sister's house on Friday & Saturday. She came over on Thursday to load my sale stuff & take to her house. Probably, wisely, is very aware of my aversion to getting up early;)
Anyway, I did make it there by 8 AM both mornings. She already had most everything set up before I got there. Both days were productive & I learned some Yard Sale lingo. Saturday around 3 PM she started putting a bunch of 'stuff' on a Free table. I learned that people called Scavengers will show up late in the day & cart off all the FREE stuff. Thus saving us from packing it all up to sell another time, or haul it off to a charity bin, or trash. One man's trash is another man's treasure. I was pooping tired! Saturday afternoon I must have looked like someone that needed a hug, because her grandson, my grand-nephew, came in & yelled, "Auntie Ruth!!", & gave me a BIG hug:)) I did need that hug. Then we decided that Baskin Robbins was calling. Sis, her hubby, grandson & I jumped into the car & had ice cream for supper. Yummy, my favorite.
Got a chance to talk with some very interesting people. I took some of my crochet items as a test market sort of thing. I am amazed at how much a person will spend on their pets. One lady bought the only doggie sweater there. $20.00! She also got her dachshund out of her vehicle so we could measure her for another sweater.
Another woman bought a Farmer's Bag for $10.00. I had purchased a funky color of yarn to make one-of-a-kind shopping bags. her comment was that she would have a bag that no one else would be able to claim. Go figure. But nice for me.
And, some people who came by wanted to talk about Jesus! Some of those people got to talk to my brother-in-law who is well versed in scripture, was able to witness & offer to be available for bible study
It is JUNE, y'all! Where have the months gone? This necessitated my twice yearly vacuum cleaner maintenance. Which means: vacuum like a fiend, then take apart & clean the vac. My sink is apartment size now. So had to knock as much dirt off the various parts & wash them in the tub. Then find a place to dry all those parts, clean the tub & watch Star Trek;) Good thing Dyson vacs are easy to clean. But I think next time it will be done by a professional.
June 18 will be the one year anniversary of my hip replacement. And the hip still hurts!!! I have a serious aversion to more surgery.
My tomato plant is huge. My herbs are producing more than I need. And I brought home a piece of my plant history that my Sis had. I had a mother Aloe Vera plant 30+ years ago, that Sis had taken a shoot of. Her Aloe also developed into a "mother" plant. So, I brought home one of the off shoots.
As explanation, in our family, a "mother plant" is one that's been around for many years & roots balls or cuttings are given to anyone who wishes to have a free plant for their homes.
Well, folks. Hope you all are getting the blessings you need. Fill the need, not the greed. Thank You Lord!
Me? After 3 days of getting up before the crack of noon, I am back to insomniac sleeping habits. It is now 3 AM. Time to go to bed, get energized to pay bills, & start back visiting family.
Have a blessed week:)
