So....today is Mother's Day. I hope all you Mom's are blessed this & every day. I had a late lunch at Olive Garden with my kids. Afterward we went to ColdStone for dessert. I love talking with them:) I am so blessed to have them closer since moving home.
We decided to go on Saturday because today would be near impossible to get into a restaurant.
Olive Garden is actually serving portion control size meals. Had plenty of room for a Love It size portion of ice cream. Forgot how it makes my joints swell & hurt. But, who doesn't love ice cream?!
Many memories of my mother have been dancing throughout my brain this past week. We butted heads ever since I can remember. No need to go into detail. I was as determined to do whatever I'd been told I couldn't, as she was determined to stop me. I won;)--most of the time. Earl put it best, "Terca". Stubborn. She did the best she could. But...when my kids were born, she was a loving, tender, fierce grandmother. I sometimes thought, "Who is this woman?" I am grateful for the skills she passed down to me, and, for giving birth to my sis & me even though she was told she shouldn't have children after my brother. I found some tomatoes(that smelled like tomato),chile guerritos & fresh garlic at Sprouts, Then made what Mom called salsa cruda. Smells that brought back memories of her & her kitchen. Yummy.
Mom was very beautiful Here are a few pics of her at different ages:
I'm hoping that other relatives have more family pics.
Having not blogged anything for 2 weeks may point to being busy. Or lazy. Just kidding, I've been very busy. Only took a pajama day this past Friday. My sis came over after work and got engrossed in all the documents & pics in my puter. Easily seeing how sometimes I'm climbing into bed at 3 AM.
Last Saturday I visited with Cyn from 2:30 until almost midnight. She has a treasure trove of stories. PLUS, she now owns, Elesta Griego y Contreras-Garcia-Nuanes' petaca(chest). Elesta was my Grandpa Julian's mother. Took pictures of the chest, brought some pictures and old, old, old documents home to scan. Still a lot left for another day.
Wed was going to Agua Fria where the Mora's are from. Mainly to get out of town for the day, but rationalizing the cost of a day trip. Then noticed my brakes were soft & squeaking. Have had this vehicle for 6+ years and never had brakes checked. The dealer's price was $1200.00+. Decided to try Midas. Had several brake pads replaced there over the years. What I like about them is the brakes are for life. And, they don't have the "little lady" attitude. Well, $700.00 later, I had a total brake job, clean battery terminals (JiffyLube told me I needed a new cable, yada yada yada) & parking bulbs replaced. Thank God for His protection while zipping around town in difficult traffic. Especially since Tuesday was the day I was returning Cyn's documents & picking my portable scanner up from her house. I got trapped behind 4 new cars where the obviously new owners were playing with new dashboard perks & weaving all over the road. Hello!! Do that while parked, not on a major road. SO, no NYC trip this Fall. Maybe in the Spring. God willing.
Previous week's dentist trip revealed a cavity(duh) and a need for a tooth implant. About $5000.00! Get the real price tomorrow. But, I am NOT putting a $5000.00 tooth implant in my mouth.
On my way to Earl's sometime the previous week saw another cousin's husband & son working in their yard. Stopped, spoke with them about what I'm doing re family tree, and made another family connection. :D
While making copies at Office Max (9 cents) I bought an external CD drive. Mine went out &, of course, I have tons of pics on CD.
I also was able to visit the Main library. Now I have home computer access to many documents. Treasures & blessings abound:))
Finally got to see The Hobbit, The Desolation of Smaug. Glad I rented this 4 hour long movie. Had to take 2 breaks to finish watching it. How long do travel scenes need to be? Am looking forward to the new StarWars movie with the original stars due out next year.
Pray for our firefighters. And, have a great week in the Lord.
