Friends & Family

So the past few days have been interesting. Last Friday we had a friend over for dinner. My daughter, who is staying with me until I can drive again, cooked a fabulous meal; Braised beef ribs, salad, grilled zucchini(my favorite), and refrigerator Lime pie. Miss V(my friend), my daughter & I ate this great meal then sat around & laughed until we couldn't laugh anymore. All in all a wonderful evening. The laughter was the best medicine because.... 2 evenings later I was finally able to get into bed by myself & give my daughter a much needed break from middle-of-the-night calls to help me. Thank You Jesus!        Back to stories about my Grandpa. I don't feel bad about posting his name or naming my ancestors because our family line is well documented, & maybe someone will read something in this blog that is helpful. His name is Julian Garcia, born July 10, 1885 to Elesta Griego & Juan Garcia. He was the oldest of  6 sons. When my great-grandfather Juan died, his mother contracted(read sold) him & his next younger brother to ranches in AZ. He told me that he had gone to the parrish priest and asked the priest to intervene because Julian was 16 & rightfully should be the man of the house now. The priest told him that he had to do what his mother said. Both the Garcia's & Griego's were staunch supporters of the Catholic church. In fact Julian was attending the Catholic school, as were his other brothers. I was very young when my grandfather started telling me his story. My mother would tell me to stop asking him so many questions, but I think he wanted someone to be able to say some of the things that would be lost after his death. Needless to say, I loved him very much, & was angered & indignant when I found out he went from being a prominent family member to a slave. He never said he wanted to be a ranch hand, but God has ways of putting events in our lives that either make us stronger, or, crush us. I know this made him stronger.         More later.

  1. I'm glad you are telling his story. I'm very interested in our roots.
