So!? Haven't blogged in over 2 weeks, but based on all the happenings in the past few days have numerous notes on what I want to blog. Some of said notes are unreadable but here goes. My life has been pretty much random, unstructured tasks and mindless relaxation for the past 2 weeks.
Title: don't know why I feel every blog should have a title. Hmm. maybe will stop that.
Had lunch at Olive Garden with my granddaughter Rae and her hubby Julian 2 weeks ago. My g-granddaughter Bri was fishing with her g-grandpa for the weekend. Lucky girl. Very enjoyable meal & visit. Chicken Alfredo over Angel Hair pasta, salad, and calamari. Yummy. As always the portions are too large so I was lucky enough to make another meal out of my leftovers. Remember when restaurant leftovers were put in "doggy bags" because taking home food was considered one of the "things to NOT do when dining out?" Silly.
Rae is working a split shift which is very awkward but convenient with Bri's school schedule. Jul's working nights in a store that is high risk for armed robberies. Bri hurt her ankle and was non-weight bearing and short schedule school status for a month. She is a stubborn one in school and usually wins every show-down with her teacher. So while she was confined Rae and Julian made certain that her attempts to get her own way would not be tolerated. Good for them. She knew a lot more when she went back to school full-time, Her parents emphasized that just passing her for the sake of "just passing her" is not an option.
Keep them all in your prayers please.
I would love to go fishing but need to get a whole new supply of fishing rod, reel, tackle box, vest, bait, etc. Left all my stuff in Deming when I moved back home! On that note----November 23rd will be one year that I moved:)
A few days ago I went through a period of wanting my own place. Mostly because someone that smokes a lot moved in either across the hall or in the unit above me. There is nothing worse to an ex-smoker than the smell of cigarette smoke. Anyway, I looked at a couple of places in my old stomping grounds but was disappointed with what is available. Unless, you have lots of money. I had opted for renting so that all the maintenance is on someone else's shoulders. The only thing I'm responsible for is light bulbs and of course pay the rent. So, decided to pray, which is the 1st thing I should have done, and the Lord gently reminded me of the above decision.
Bren and I had a late lunch at Rudy's b-b-q. Love their smoked pork ribs. Not baby-backs. Just plain, smoked ribs. Yum. Don't know where they get their corn-on-the-cob, but it always tastes just picked. Top all that off with a fudge brownie with lots of walnuts:) No left overs here. And since it's Breast Cancer Awareness Month I bought a themed, large soft drink cup. We went shopping at Home Goods which is a Kirkland's type of store. Larger selection with better prices. I bought a pink patterned box to put Bri's Christmas gifts in. Yep, Christmas is almost here! Yay!! I love Christmas.
On Columbus Day, Char & I went shopping for shoes. Hit Skecher's, DD's, and K-Mart. Lunch at China City. Glad they have held on to the recipes I loved from their previous location. Usually when restaurant's move they try to alter the food. Doesn't seem to work in most cases. Qualify that statement to add "in Albuquerque anyway".
Had to see a cardiologist, per my PCP, to evaluate some things. His clinic is in a major hospital and Bren dropped me off at the door so I wouldn't have to walk 1/4 mile from the parking structure. Ridiculous. I was only reluctant to go because of the Ebola scare. I have a healthy respect for any pathogen that can kill people. And know intimately the false sense of security healthcare providers share with lax precautions. If you have to see a doc or go to a hospital please make sure you protect yourself with proper hand washing, cover your mouth when you cough, don't sneeze on people, and, don't be shy about reminded those around you to do the same. No matter their station in the healthcare hierarchy. SHAME ON THEM if they get huffy.
Bought some tortillas. They just do not have the same flavor as home made. Maybe I'll make a batch to freeze.
Char was told about a home remedy for arthritis that she imparted to me. The remedy is to soak white raisins in gin. Then you eat 9 (not 8, not 10) raisins every day. I finally found white raisins. Checked the outrageous price of booze. Damn!! Had to go to a liquor store to buy a miniature of gin. The miniature costs more than a half pint! How can people afford to consume alcohol everyday? Choices.
So, I've been eating this concoction about every other day. Seems to be relieving some of the arthritic symptoms. My joints aren't as swollen and painful;)
Bought some Maxwell House Dark Roast coffee. Worst coffee I have ever tasted. Couldn't even improve the taste by grinding to a finer blend and mixing with Ecuadorian coffee beans.
Am pleasantly surprised to learn that pharmacists can order and administer vaccinations. So, got both a Shingles and Flu vaccination. Next the pneumonia vac which has just been changed to a double given 6 months apart. I do not like shots:( Their questionnaire asks if "you have a Vaccination Card". Just like when my kids were small. That record was like gold because children would not be allowed to attend school without it. During one of those visits, I found some clearance Thom McAn shoes for $5.99!!!
Crocheted a cap, purse, doll and scarf.
Read 3 books. Aahh.
Watched Captain Phillips. Great movie.
Cooked, cleaned and decided that I need to downsize even more. Have things that haven't been touched in months Emptied 8 jars of canned spaghetti sauce and salsa that I made 2 years ago. What a waste. Skipped laundry for another week.
Made my own caramel covered apples with chopped pecans. Yummy!!!:))
Finally sent off for a new passport to include my maiden name and new address. Can hardly wait to put it to use.
Have a new neighbor. She's cute and confused. A piano was delivered to one of the just rented, but currently empty apartments. That neighbor is expected within the week.
On my way home one evening I thought of take-out instead of either cooking, leftovers or a bowl of cereal. Every drive-up had a line of cars that insured at least a 30 minute wait. So had a peanut butter sandwich when I got home.
Never being too far away from genealogy research:
I've been following up on all the alerts from newspapers.com. Good website.
Visited with my cousin Earl to show him all the documents I had on our grand-uncle Luis. He also shared more family memories. Just love listening to him recount things he's remembered since my last visit.
Also stopped to share info with Gayla Tio Tomas's daughter.
Lined up pictures of my Mom and her sisters. Just noticed that I would not pick her as related. That discovery was a bit perplexing. So asked Auntie Alice when Char and I went to see her. She said Mom looked like g-grandmother Nieves' family. So that would be Chavez. Nieves had clear green eyes and red burnished hair that looked dark indoors and really red in the sun. Veronica said the her mom, my aunt, used to say the same thing. Can hardly wait to go to Prescott, AZ to research newspapers there. Maybe even find some relations:)

Somethings I never thought would happen in my lifetime:
The Vatican reverting to medieval times political double speak.
My pastor's wife made a political commercial for Allen Weh.
I was quite shocked because the church community has bent over backward to keep Church and State separate. But I was also quite pleased.
I'm Tiredofworkingwoman and I approve this message:);)
