Recovery
So today is post-op day 20 of my total hip replacement. Finally start physical therapy Monday. Have to get a lift in one shoe until my other hip is replaced:) So you could say I'm lopsided. Thank God my daughter is still here until I get the ok to drive & can get around without too much trouble. I initially told FMLA company that I would return to work in 8 weeks. After surgery my doc said 12 weeks! Have a ways to go. Appreciate everyone's prayers & well wishes. When I spoke to our FMLA department & told them 8 weeks, the woman said, "I hope so. So you can improve our statistics." What is that? But, she was right. Guess I won't improve their stats. Feels strange to have such a long healing process. Spoke with a friend who has had both hips done. She said "good luck trying to cut your toe nails". I really like pedicures;) There are 4 exercises that have to be done everyday: moving feet up & down(sort of like swimming), rotating my foot clockwise 10 times, then counter clockwise 10 times, buttock muscle contractions-hold for a count of 5 times 10, 3-4 times per day, and bed supported knee bends. All these without letting my hip rotate out or in so that the fake hip doesn't move until the muscles move back into normal position. Whew. let that be a lesson to anyone needing a new hip. Not an easy thing to do. But better than the intense pain of deteriorating joints. My walker is my friend. More on my grandfather later. have a great evening & God bless.
