Since my grandfather was running the sheep herds & herders for Tom Reed in 1913 that made him 28 years old. He met my grandmother, Deluvina in 1911. Their 1st child was borne in 1912 in Flagstaff, AZ. Don't know if that's where the birth is registered. I was told that when he had been summoned back to Albuquerque by his uncles death & reading of the will, Grandma was almost due. They were on the train & she had to get off to give birth to my oldest aunt. Promptly got back on the train & they continued on their journey.
Even though Julian wouldn't have much to do with his mother, my oldest aunt, Florenia, is listed on the 1920 Census in both residences , Julian's & Elesta's.
Grandma had 2 sons prior to this. He said she was a compesina that did laundry for the workers. My oldest 2 uncles were wonderful men. The oldest one, Climaco, never met his biological father. But Abran met his when he was in his late 60s or early 70s when his sisters tracked him down. Strangely enough they lived in Albuquerque as well. So he got to meet his bio-dad. I'm glad because he smiled a lot after that. Both men called Grandpa "Papa or Papa Julian". And, my grandpa would do anything he could for them & their families, as for us all. There was no difference between them & the rest of the kids.
If you follow or know about genealogy, you know that if you come out of the same womb you are full siblings. Same dad, different womb equals half siblings. That's your lesson for today. Julian always said, "learn something new everyday, no matter how little or how big." Good advice, no?
I have another story written about Julian that I will post in full as soon as I get moved & organized. The gist of the story is: Julian had been riding rough shod over law breakers that trespassed or harassed any pastores or sheep camps. So he was advised to leave the AZ territory because he was going to be killed. so he came to back to Albuquerque & made his mark over the years.
